This task split the class. Pupils were fine converting from base 10 when the number was less than the base squared, but then when it exceeds the base squared, the idea of regrouping the '10s' into a '100' proved conceptually difficult for some. This is strange, as this is such a fundamental concept in place value. I have now tweaked the task to try and overcome those difficulties but I am still not fully satisfied with it. If you have any ideas it would be great.
